Let the Flooring Begin

After selecting our ceramic tiles back in November, we are thrilled to see installation officially get underway this week. This tiling will span nearly the entire home, with the exception of the bedrooms and offices, where a composite flooring will be installed by the carpenter at a later date. While the bathroom wall and floor tiles have also arrived, there are a few other progress reports to share first.

Most notably, the gypsum ceilings are now fully installed, taped, mudded, and sanded. Aside from a final coat of white paint, which we are holding off on until the bulk of interior work is done, the ceilings are officially complete.

Next up is wall priming. As many of the walls have now had all of their enlucido work completed, the first coats of primer can go on. A few coats will be needed prior to the final color, which my mom and I picked out last week. That process will be covered in a little more detail when the priming is finished and painting begins.

Now, on to the stairs! In my last post, I shared photos of the stairs being templated on pieces of gypsum. I’m happy to report that the templating is done and the framing has officially been installed. They look a bit rough at the moment, but, again, once a little more interior work is behind us, we’ll touch up and paint the steel structure before adding the final wood treads and landing.

And finally, let the flooring begin! The process starts with a thin concrete underlayment. This important step brings the floor closer to a true level and patches any minor gaps or surface wear the slab sustained during the heavy construction phase.

Once the surface is prepped, the workers apply the thinset, a specialized adhesive mortar, to secure the ceramic tiles firmly in place. And this is just the first of thousands of tiles to be laid in the home.

Wow!!! Things are really coming along rather quickly since your last post. I like how you explain the process steps needed to get everything done. Do you have a tentative move in date yet?
Say hi to your mom for me.

Yes, things have really ramped up recently. At this stage, many jobs only need 1 or 2 workers so several different things can be progressing at once. I am hesitant to give a move in date as we have already missed so many, but with the recent progress I am leaning towards 5-6 weeks.

Yesterday we received a tentative confirmation that the utility company will be installing our power lines on or around the 21st of February. So hopefully the move-in date is shortly after that!
